In the year 1958, a relay of athletes started carrying a baton from Buckingham Palace to the Opening Ceremony of Commonwealth games. Within this baton, a message of greeting to the athletes from the Queen is present. Therefore, the baton is popularly also known as the Queen’s Baton. A famous sports personality of the host nation is generally the final bearer of the baton.
